Girl, 12, approached and '˜frightened' by man in car

Edinburgh police have appealed for witnesses after a 12-year-old girl was approached by a suspicious man near the Meadows.

The incident took place on Friday 15 September at 2.15pm. The girl was at a bus stop outside Summerhall, on Causewayside when an unknown man in a silver car approached her and spoke to her before driving off.

He then returned, getting out of the car and walked up to her - the girl screamed and when a male passerby came to her aid, the man fled back to his car and sped off.

The driver is described as an Asian male with black hair.

Detective Sergeant Andy MacRae of Gayfield CID said: “I would like to thank the man who came to help the girl who was frightened by being approached by someone she didn’t know - I’m keen to speak to him or anyone who was in the area of the south east corner of The Meadows on Friday afternoon and may have witnessed this incident.”
