Girl goes to parliament over dyslexia

A SCHOOLGIRL who is distributing blue ribbons to raise awareness of dyslexia is set to present one to the Scottish
Parliament.

Ellie Gordon-Woolgar, 12, who has dyslexia and lives in the Capital, has been awarded a grant of £750 from Disney Friends for Change to carry out the campaign.

On Wednesday, Ellie will travel to the Scottish Parliament and personally deliver a ribbon to Dr Alasdair Allan, minister for learning, science and Scotland’s languages.

Blue ribbons will also be distributed for free in schools and libraries.

Ellie, who has three sisters, two of whom are dyslexic and the other is dyspraxic, said: “I am fed up of having to explain what dyslexia is to everyone I meet.”

Mr Allan said: “Ellie’s work to raise awareness of dyslexia and the impact it can have on people’s lives is inspirational. I was fascinated to learn about her campaign to introduce the blue ribbon and I will wear mine with pride today and during dyslexia awareness week.”

The awareness week starts on Tuesday, November 6 with a launch event in Edinburgh Central Library at 6.30pm.
