Gold star for nursery school

Mayfield Nursery has ended the school year on a high after receiving a glowing report from Education Scotland '¨inspectors.

There was praise for the “calm,

purposeful learning environment which is supporting the needs of all children”.

In addition, the inspectors noted: “Staff show a consistent and positive approach in their interactions which is helping children achieve.

“As a result, children show a great deal of confidence in their learning environment both within the playrooms and outside in their recently improved nursery garden.”

There was “very good progress” by the children in early language and mathematics and the youngsters’ communication and listening skills were developing well.

Children in the ICAN Speech, Language and Communication unit were showing increased confidence in making up and talking about sentences.

The report continued: “In the nursery and ICAN unit, the overall quality of support to all children is excellent.

“Staff know each child as an individual and as a result children’s learning needs are met very effectively.”

The inspectors congratulated the leadership at the school, praising new approaches to planning which was having a “positive impact” on the children’s learning experience.

“We are confident that Mayfield Nursery School will continue to build on the many strengths outlined and will continue to further improve,” concluded the report

Head teacher Ms Lisa Barnes said: “We are absolutely delighted that all our hard work has been recognised and that the evaluations are very good. We would like to thank the children, parents, staff, families and other professionals who are all part of the Mayfield Nursery team.”
