Grants tackle tipping woes

THOUSANDS of pounds worth of grants have been handed out across the Lothians to crack down on fly-tipping.

Three projects have been given a share of more than £12,000 by Zero Waste Scotland.

It wants to bring an end to illegal dumping.

The Hopetoun Road Wildlife site by the Forth Bridges and two community groups in Dalkeith and Oxenfoord will receive the money.

Iain Gulland, director of Zero Waste Scotland, said: “Fly-tipping is an illegal, selfish and wholly unnecessary activity.

“Appropriate disposal facilities exist across Scotland to ensure that we can all dispose of our waste in ways which are safe for the environment.”
