Green buses save money

“Greener” double-decker buses launched in the Capital last year have saved around £200,000 in running costs, it has been claimed.

Lothian Buses said the 15 state-of-the-art hybrid vehicles it added to its fleet have reduced costs by thousands of pounds and also saved more than 600 tonnes in CO2 emissions.

The hybrid fleet was introduced to the Capital after an investment of £5 million, which included £1m from the Scottish Government’s Green Bus Fund.

A further ten hybrid buses are set to be introduced to the fleet in early 2013.
