Greens talk of committee blow

GREEN councillors have expressed their disappointment after city leaders rejected their plea for two parents on the education committee.

At last week’s full council meeting, the local authority said there should be just one parent on the committee.

However, Green councillor Gavin Corbett argued that there should be two parents on the committee, sitting alongside 20 councillors, three
religious representatives and two teachers.

He said: “Parent representation on the education committee is long overdue.

“But allowing two parents on would give parity with teachers, it would allow for continuity over a five-year period if any one parent was not able to continue, and it would increase the likelihood of parents with children at different stages of school being involved.”
