Ground fall at cemetery

REPAIRS are taking place after a section of ground collapsed at a cemetery.

The four-foot area suffered subsidence on a roadway in the old district of Prestonpans Cemetery in East Lothian.

It is thought the collapse occurred due to old mine workings in the area. It did not disturb any graves, but public access will be restricted while repairs are carried out.

A spokesman for East Lothian Council said: “The Coal Authority has been notified as the collapse is probably due to old mine workings.”
