Gunshot and scream heard, murder trial told

• A man testifying in a murder trial has told a jury that he heard a gunshot and a “scared scream” before calling police

Three men are on trial at the High Court in Edinburgh accused of shooting 30-year-old Gambian Dodou Leigh and threatening another man - entertainer Ibrahim Krubally, 22, who uses the stage name E-Boy.

Car mechanic Daruis Obara, 34, of Hawkhill Close, in the Meadowbank area of the city, told how he was at home in his top floor flat on the evening of December 4 last year with his wife and two children when he heard the noises.

“I heard a shot,” he told advocate depute John Scullion, prosecuting, through a Polish interpreter. “A shot from a gun.”

Mr Obara said he had also heard a scream. He felt scared, phoned neighbours then called the police.

Questioned later by officers he told them: “It wasn’t a scream like ‘help’ it was a scream like pain.”

In his statement the following day, Mr Obara said he was watching a soap on TV at the time: “It sounded like a scared scream. I couldn’t tell if it was a male or a female voice. It wasn’t too loud,” he said.

George Thomson, 30; Roche Thomson, 25, and Kevin Addison, 28, are accused of murdering 30-year-old Dodou Leigh by blasting him with a shotgun in a flat at Hawkhill Close, in the Easter Road area of Edinburgh, last December 4.

They are also accused of assaulting Mr Krubally by threatening him with a shotgun and knives.

They are also accused of stealing a bucket of cannabis from the flat.

Addison alone faces a charge of trying to defeat the ends of justice. It is alleged that two days later in a car park in Ormiston, East Lothian, he set fire to a car, supposedly used in the alleged murder, in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The three men deny all the charges against them.

The trial, which is expected to last ten days, continues.
