A transport breakdown left the chart stars stranded south of the border.

And despite the best efforts of everyone at the Dalkeith festival, it was left to compere Arlene Stuart to break the bad news to rain-soaked music fans.

Both the band and organisers were left gutted after doing everything possible to get them to the venue.

A statement released by directors of Midstock said: ‘‘The band’s transport broke down en route to Dalkeith and despite their best efforts, they were unable to get to the site.

“This incident was completely outwith our control but behind the scenes we made every attempt to assist them. Sadly, everything went against the clock and we had no alternative but to announce that they would not be performing.

“We are as disappointed as all of you and we hope you can support us as we try to recover from the backlash we’ve received as a result.

“As residents of Dalkeith and strong supporters of the community as a whole, we endeavour to produce the best festival that our budgets allow and will continue to do so. ”

Despite the no show, organisers remain upbeat about the future.

The statement continued: “This incident aside, the feedback we have had about Midstock Festival as a whole has been largely positive and has encouraged us greatly. The appetite for a good musical festival on our doorsteps is still there and we thank those who take the time to give us this feedback.”

Scouting for Girls also took to social media to express their regret at missing out on the gig.

“We are absolutely gutted to have missed Midstock. Our van broke down twice and it became impossible to get there before the 11pm sound curfew. We tried everything to make the show happen - trains/hire cars/ hire equipment/ moving the curfew / even helicopters!’’
