Hackers hit schools site

RUSSIAN computer hackers have forced East Lothian Council to shut down its schools website.

The council suspended its “edubuzz.org” blog network after a cyber attack.

Parents and pupils have been locked out of the portal while security experts try to repair the damage to the site, based on popular home software Wordpress.

A spokesman for East Lothian Council said: “Hackers in Russia had been putting links into the site, which caused us security concerns, so we closed it down.

“We can’t say for certain when it will be back up, but we hope to get it back up and running soon.

This has been a worldwide problem for many websites using WordPress.”

The council said it was facing a minimum £2,000 repair bill as visitors are temporarily redirected to a holding page.
