A PLAQUE dedicated to the memory of James “Paraffin” Young has been stolen just days after it went on display in Bathgate.

The plaque was presented by the Royal Society of Chemistry to the Bennie Museum, which attached it to the wall on Mansefield Street.

Over the weekend however the blue and white plaque was ripped from the wall. Museum curator Bill Millan said the theft had brought shame on the town.

He said: “It had only been on display for about ten days. It was flush with the wall so its not as if you could just put your fingers behind it and pull it off.”
