Heavy rain warning for motorists

DRIVERS in the Lothians were warned to take care today as the Met office predicted at least another 24 hours of torrential rain.

Weathermen have issued an Amber (Be Prepared) warning for the east of Scotland and flooding is expected to cause traffic problems.

There is the potential for almost a month’s average rainfall in these areas over a 24 to 48-hour period, with about 8cm (3in) possible locally.

Transport Minister Keith Brown said: “Just weeks after the first major storm of the autumn, the transport network is braced for another major challenge.”

He said : “Our operating companies are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to deal with any weather-related issues that arise.”

Flood alerts are in place across the country, however, there are no specific flood warnings.
