Heiress’ sentencing delayed as hurricane traps judge in US

A PASTRY heiress who lived in a shed in Bathgate until her lover murdered his invalid wife could not be sentenced because of Hurricane Irene.

The judge due to deal with Rita Heyster is stuck in his holiday home in the United States because of the high winds, a court heard yesterday.

The High Court in Edinburgh previously heard how Heyster, 57, helped a “manipulative monster” to cover up the murder of Carol Jarvis, because she was besotted with him.

Heyster was the latest of a succession of women to fall for the charms of Carol’s philandering husband, Harry Jarvis.

He persuaded her to live in a shed in the garden of his West Lothian home – in conditions no better than a dog in a kennel, a court heard – awaiting the death of his wife.

Then Heyster helped dump the body under the floorboards of the Jarvis home at Balbardie Crescent, Bathgate.

A jury at the High Court in Edinburgh found her guilty of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
