HOW THE STORY UNFOLDS

March: The first sculpture is left at the Scottish Poetry Library. The artist leaves a model tree bearing a small hand-written note addressed to @ByLeavesWeLive – the name the library uses on Twitter.

June: Staff at the Filmhouse find a miniature cinema cut from the pages of several books left in the box office. It included in the audience a model of Ian Rankin enjoying a bottle of Deuchars. A model of a gramophone and a coffin carved from a copy of Rebus’ last adventure, Exit Music, was left at the National Library of Scotland.

July: A nesting dragon, carved from the pages of Rankin’s novel Knots and Crosses, is found in the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

August: Two sculptures are found at the International Book Festival. The first, a tray with a cup of tea and a cupcake, was inscribed: “This cup is awarded to @edbookfest”. It also contained a tea bag full of letters and an unmarked book. The second was gifted to the City of Literature and was created from a copy of James Hogg’s Confessions Of A Justified Sinner.
