I’m coming down with Saturdays night fever

THEY are one of the biggest pop acts in the UK today, she is a schoolgirl from Edinburgh who can only dream of the big time.

But 16-year-old Lindsey Hunter will find herself singing on the same stage as girl group The Saturdays when they play to 10,000 people in Glasgow next month.

Lindsey, from Currie, beat off stiff competition from more than 600 budding performers across the country to win The Saturdays’ Star competition, which aimed to find Scotland’s biggest undiscovered music talent.

She will now perform a song of her choice on the SECC stage on December 13.

Lindsey, who is a huge fan of The Saturdays, submitted a recording of her version of Fame to the In:Demand radio show competition, which broadcasts on Forth One and other stations across the country.

The track propelled her on to a shortlist of five acts, with all finalists asked to submit a short video of themselves performing a favourite song.

Lindsey recorded an acoustic version of Guns N’ Roses’ Sweet Child O’ Mine, which secured her 24 per cent of the public votes.

She was informed of her win by In:Demand presenter Romeo, who broke the news live on air.

Lindsey, a sixth-year pupil at Currie High School, said: “I really wasn’t expecting to even get to the final five, let alone win the whole competition.

“I’m just so thankful to everyone who voted for me as I thought all the other finalists were super talented.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for me and I can’t wait to meet The Saturdays and perform on such a massive stage at the SECC. I’m still shaking with excitement.”

The talented teenager will live and breathe the pop star lifestyle for the day, performing a song before The Saturdays take to the stage as part of their UK tour.

Lindsey will also have her own dressing room, complete with a hair and make-up artist.

She will take the chance to quiz the band about their music careers and ask for advice on how to break into the music business before her performance.

Lindsey, who has previously performed solo and as part of her Edinburgh-based band, After the Blast, at venues including Cabaret Voltaire, had an audition at Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre Arts today.

The teenager, who will be cheered on at the SECC by mum Cathleen, dad Ian and 19-year-old brother Euan, has been singing since she was five years old and playing acoustic guitar for the last three years.

She added: “I think I might perform my Fame cover at the SECC because that’s what got me through. I write my own stuff as well, but it’s got to be a cover.”
