Jaw smashed in stair attack

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 62-year-old man was seriously assaulted in an unprovoked attack.

It happened after the man entered a common stair in Ferry Road Drive, Pilton, where he found three men and a woman drinking.

When he questioned the group, one of the men punched him in the face before a second man began kicking him.

The victim was treated for a broken jaw at St John’s Hospital, Livingston.

The incident happened at around 7.30am on Sunday.

A police spokesman said: “This was an unprovoked and vicious assault that resulted in a man suffering a painful and serious facial injury.”
