John Gibson: Pinch me, I must be dreaming
WRONG. You'd have got better odds on Hibs to win the Scottish Cup than on Leicester City to win the English league.
Anyway, Hibernian have done it and they’ve made an old man very happy.
First time in 114 years. Never thought it would happen in my lifetime. To say I am ecstatic would be putting it mildly. Very mildly.
Like I say, I truly didn’t expect the Hibees to pull it off in my lifetime. I only wish John Keating, a lifelong pal of mine, was still on the planet to see it happen.
When it does, one promptly thinks of all the guys one wishes were still on the planet, seeing it happen – not to mention the Famous Five (Smith, Johnstone, Reilly, Turnbull and Ormond) and, with due respect to their undoubted talent, they were a superior footballing outfit than the chaps who pulled off what we all thought would never happen.
Having said that, I am immensely proud to call myself a Hibby and see it happen.
Not that I am biased, understand. I just happen to be Hibs born and bred, from the heart of sunny Leith.
Proud to be a Leither and call myself a Hibby from way back.
Just call me Gibby the Hibby. And I had adopted the handle long before I ever dared dream of parading down Leith Walk in an open-top bus. Too good to be true, did you say?
If you are a Rangers supporter (and you have no right to be reading this column) I have no sympathy for you whatsoever.
Doon the line the train came puffing, Hibs ten Rangers nuffing.
Having chuntered on, attired in green and white, I have to say it’s great to be alive.
