Joint action ‘will start to pay off’

The Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) today predicted 2012 would see co-operation between Scotland’s six cities start to pay off.

The organisation has been working closely with the government and the six cities – Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness and Stirling – during the last 12 months to develop an action plan for tackling unemployment and returning to economic prosperity. The action plan’s target areas are connectivity, sustainability, knowledge and culture.

SCDI chief executive Dr Lesley Sawers said: “2012 is the year when our action plan will begin to have real impact. When cities grow and expand their economies, the economies of whole nations also grow and develop.

“To be the engines of growth, our cities need to be well-connected with each other and to international markets.”
