The detailed artwork has been placed on the top of a postbox on Harrison Road near Harrison Park, recreating the star midfielder’s iconic overhead kick goal against Denmark which helped Scotland to a remarkable and memorable 4-2 win against Denmark in November.

That famous victory clinched the men’s national team’s place at the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, kicking off with a 1-0 win last Sunday against Haiti, our first World Cup victory since 1990.

Edinburgh is currently awash with flags and banners supporting Steve Clarke’s side in North America, with the team set to play World Cup 26 matches against Morocco on Friday, June 19, and Brazil on Wednesday, June 24.

And now this eye-catching knitted post box topper tribute has appeared on Harrison Road, which is sure to bring a smile to the face of anyone that sees it, as the feelgood World Cup fever continues in Edinburgh, for now anyway.

Previously that postbox was covered with a topper tribute to the Scotland rugby team, knitted presumably by the same unknown local person behind this latest sporting tribute.
