Legal high set for ban after death

THE drug which is thought to have caused the death of Portobello teenager Alex Heriot could soon be banned.

The UK Government is considering using powers to temporarily outlaw the Benzo Fury legal high, after Mr Heriot, 19, died at the RockNess music festival earlier this month after taking the drug.

Ministers would consider whether the drug should be made illegal permanently while the temporary banning order was in place. The Advice Council on the Misuse of Drugs has confirmed that it is investigating Benzo Fury.

A spokesman said: “We will look to consider further evidence as it becomes available, particularly the outcomes of the forensic toxicology of the recent death at the RockNess music festival.”

The Home Office said it was awaiting the group’s advice before deciding on what action to take.
