Elliot, whose address was only given as Midlothian, made no plea and was remanded in custody. The case was committed for further examination and he will appear back at the Capital court within eight days.

The court appearance follows a Police Scotland press release stating a man had been charged following an investigation into a series of alleged housebreaking and thefts across the Lothian and Borders region.

The incidents are said to have taken place in Tranent, Prestonpans, Galashiels, Selkirk, Livingston, Gorebridge and Stow, between Friday, 6 September and Thursday, 10 October, 2024.

Detective Inspector Debbie Duncan said: “Crimes of this nature have a serious impact on the victims, causing them to question the safety and security of their own homes, and I would like to commend the work of the officers investigating this crime series.
