Man, 47, dies in Midlothian crash

A VAN driver has died after his vehicle struck a wall and overturned.

The 47-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene on the A6094, in Howgate, Midlothian, on Saturday afternoon.

A 14-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the red Citroen Berlingo, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a precaution.

Police said the road was closed in both directions from 3.40pm until approximately 8.30pm to allow investigations to be conducted at the scene.

Sergeant Neil Inglis of Police Scotland’s road policing unit appealed for anyone who witnessed the fatal crash to come forward.

He said: “Inquiries into this collision continue and our sincere condolences remain with the family of the driver at this very difficult time.

“We’ve spoken to a number of people so far but anyone who witnessed this and who has not yet been in touch is urged to come forward.”
