Man assaulted outside New Look on Princes St

A MAN suffered a head injury after being punched in the face during an early morning assault in the city centre.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident.

The 26-year-old was on Princes Street, outside New Look, at around 3.15am on Sunday when he was punched to the face, causing him to fall back onto the road and strike his head.

The two men responsible for the attack then ran off along Castle Street and the victim was assisted by a group of people who had exited a nearby club.

Officers have since been pursuing various lines of inquiry to trace the men and anyone who can assist is asked to come forward.

The first suspect is described as being olive-skinned and aged between 20 and 25 years old.

He is between 6ft and 6ft 2ins tall, with an average build and dark stubble, and was wearing a black leather jacket and dark jeans.

The second suspect is described as being olive-skinned and aged between 30 and 35 years old.

He has a slim build and was wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans.

Constable Lauren Mitchell, from the Violence Reduction Unit at Gayfield Police Station, said: “As a result of this assault the victim was taken to hospital where he received treatment for a head injury and has no recollection of being attacked.

“We have spoken to the people who called police and assisted the man after he was injured but are keen to trace anyone else who was on Princes Street at around 3.15am on Sunday and remembers seeing anything suspicious.

“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspects and believes they can help us identify them should also contact police immediately.”
