Man charged over assault

A MAN has been charged in connection with a serious assault in the Capital.

It is alleged that the assault occurred on the corner of Calton Road and Old Tolbooth Wynd at around 3am yesterday, leaving a 46-year-old man with serious head injuries.

He was rushed to the Royal Infirmary, where he remains in a serious condition.

A 31-year-old man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Officers at the scene cordoned off sections of Calton Road shortly before 7am yesterday.

A spokeswoman for police appealed for any witnesses to the incident to contact them on 0131-311 3131.
