Man found dead named by officers

A MAN who may have frozen to death in a Penicuik garden has been named by police.

Robert Reid, 29, was found dead in the town’s Strathesk Place on Wednesday afternoon. The discovery was made by a teenage girl and it is believed his body may have lain undiscovered from the previous night when temperatures were below freezing.

Officers said inquiries were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Reid, who lived in Penicuik.

Horrified neighbours yesterday told the News of their shock at the discovery.

Kay Taylor, who was called to the scene by friend Cathie Craig and her daughter Kelsey, 13 – who found Mr Reid – said: “The moment I saw him I knew he was dead – he was frozen stiff. It looked to me like he had fallen asleep in the snow after being out and died of the cold.”
