Man injured in Meadows attack by thug in tweed jacket

A man was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries after an early-morning attack in Edinburgh’s Meadows area.

The incident happened around 5.15am yesterday morning.

A group of 5 men and women were walking on Middle Meadow Walk from Forest Road, when one of the group was approached from behind by an unknown man who assaulted him.

The 19-year-old victim sustained serious facial injuries and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The suspect is described as white, 25-30 years old, with a medium to stocky build and bald shaved head.

He was wearing a light tweed-style jacket with dark chino trousers.

He was last seen making off towards Melville Drive.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

DC Kevin Tait of Craigmillar CID said: “This was a seemingly unprovoked attack which caused extensive facial injuries to the victim and we are pursuing all possible lines of enquiry in order to trace the perpetrator.

“Anyone with information which can assist with our investigation, or who may have seen the someone matching the suspect’s description around the time of the incident, is asked to get in touch.”
