Max wins readers’ hearts

A HAPPY couple who scooped the prestigious Pet Idol 2011 have spoken of their joy – and how they are going to spend the winnings on puppy behaviour classes.

Lucky labrador Max won over the hearts of Evening News readers, receiving 1765 votes.

However, despite being top dog, and a best friend to son Cameron, owner Brenda Wanstall and husband John said the five-month-old might benefit from a few classes.

Mrs Wanstall said: “He jumps up on people and it can be embarrassing. So we’re going to get dog training classes to help calm him down a little.”

The family also plans to use the £750 winnings to treat Max – whose win follows in the paw-prints of his prize-winning parents Mia “The Hillside Dutchess” and dad Kane – to new toys and a new lead.

Coming in second place was Blizzard from Musselburgh, who was hugely popular throughout the contest, while Bobo from Newtongrange, Midlothian, came third.
