Meissen pieces up for auction

An impressive selection of 19th Century Meissen pieces are to go under the hammer at Bonhams, Edinburgh.

The sale, on Wednesday, May 16, includes a pair of late 19th Century Meissen figural candlesticks, estimated at £700-1000. Each depicts different seasons – one represents spring and summer, featuring putti holding baskets of flowers, and the other represents autumn and winter, where a putto holds a glass of wine.

Meissen porcelainis marked with variations of a blue crossed swords mark, which was introduced in 1720.
