Men jailed for six-hour prison disturbance

SIX men who were part of a disturbance at privately run Addiewell Prison that went on for more than six hours have been jailed.

Martin Black, 28, and Jay McCarroll, 27, both pleaded guilty to assaulting prison officer Scott Gallacher.

Paul Robertson, 26, was caught on CCTV manoeuvring a fridge and moving a pool table. Jonathan Jenkins, 23, struggled with prison officers. David McDonald, 45, was caught on CCTV putting wet newspaper over the camera and Ross Young, 23, pushed a prison officer. All six men were originally charged with the more serious allegation of mobbing and rioting and the case went to trial but was deserted.

Advocate depute Stephen O’Rourke said that as a result of the disturbance, prison officers abandoned the wing.
