Mentor project funding boost

AN INITIATIVE to steer young people in Leith away from a life of crime has been given a funding boost.

Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland has awarded £6000 to Leith Acorn Centre YMCA’s early-intervention project, which involves local mentors being matched with young people who are seen as being at risk of offending, or have been charged for the first time.

Referrals are made from the police or through the Edinburgh Youth Offending Service.
