Mine shaft closes road

AN uncapped mine shaft has been discovered, prompting the closure of a link between a road and cycle path.

The B708 – the high level road between Armadale and Bathgate – could be shut at the bicycle facility link for some time, West Lothian Council said.

A spokesman added: “The path closure at Kenbog Farm, just to the south of the B708, is due to the discovery of an uncapped mine shaft below the path.

“Recent drilling revealed the exact location of the shaft but this disturbance may have made its collapse more likely.”
