Minister’s Cat hopes to get claws into £50k of talent contest prizes

A MUSICAL duo are one step away from performing at one of the UK’s most prestigious venues after impressing a panel of judges.

The Minister’s Cat – made up of 24-year-old Steven Smith and Alison Tod, 22 – have made it to the latter stages of the Open Mic UK event.

The will play at the area final in Manchester next month and, if successful, will appear at London’s O2 Arena.

The contest is aimed at discovering some of the country’s best unsigned talent. More than £50,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs, while the winner will be offered a recording contract.

Judges at the recent regional finals in Glasgow described The Minister’s Cat as a “very good duo”.

A spokesman for the competition said: “We are searching for an act that not only has the live ability to impress an audience, industry judges and A&R associates [talent scouts], but an act that has the potential to become a professional recording artist.”

The Manchester event takes place on December 4.
