Mixed messages follow school inspection

AN inspection of Loretto Primary School in Musselburgh has rated improvements in performance as “weak” while noting it was meeting learning need satisfactorily.

This week’s report said that in both nursery and primary, the curriculum and improvement through self-evaluation were weak, but education chiefs have already promised action to bolster its performance by improving teamwork and leadership for learning at all levels.

Politeness and music were among areas given praise.

Councillor Peter MacKenzie, cabinet member for education and children’s services, said: “I have been very impressed with the way the staff have taken the findings of this challenging inspection to heart and are already delivering a significantly better all-round educational experience for children.”
