Mother begs son missing for a week to get in touch

THE MOTHER of a man who has been missing for more than a week has pleaded for information about his whereabouts and said it was “out of character” for her son not to be in contact.

Christopher Dalziel, 21, went missing on November 25 after telling work colleagues that he was going on a night out.

He didn’t show up for work the following Monday and his family and friends have not heard from him since.

The last known CCTV images of Mr Dalziel, who works for Scottish Gas, were recorded at Morrisons supermarket, at Waterfront Avenue on The Shore, just after 8pm on Friday.

His best friend, Lyndsay Wallace, 30, revealed that Mr Dalziel, of Restalrig Road, had left his bank card in his flat and his phone was disconnected.

Today his mother, Linda Dalziel, said she was deeply worried about his disappearance. She said: “I think he would have told me [if he had been planning to go away] as I am very close to him.

“He did go away once before but he told me by text he was going to London, and he kept in touch while he was there.

“As far as I am aware he didn’t take anything, no bank cards. You can’t get through to his phone. His mum and dad and family miss him and we want him to be safe.

“I don’t know what has happened, he has just disappeared.”

She added: “Police have checked CCTV at the bus station and I think the train station, but there is no sign of him.”

Ms Walace, 30, said Mr Dalziel had appeared restless in the days before he went missing.

She said: “The last sighting of Christopher was at Morrisons, but I later found a receipt at his house dated at that time so he must have gone back there.

“His flatmate said she had left him some money that she owed him in the kitchen, but it was left untouched on the counter.

“From speaking to our colleagues, he said he was going on a night out with friends, but we don’t know if he went on the night out. We’ve been around all the clubs in central Edinburgh and there was nothing.

“Apparently, when Christopher was 18 he went down to London on a whim but he let people know what was going on. He has never disappeared without contact.

“I’m hoping this is because he wasn’t happy at work. He did mention a couple of times that he’d like to move to a couple of places, such as Manchester and London.

“There is speculation it’s the same situation as last time but the fact we’ve not heard anything is alarming. His phone is completely dead. It says ‘unable to connect’.”

She added: “I would encourage him to get in touch. If he wants to move away, that’s fine, but we are concerned for his safety and we want to know he’s OK.”

Mr Dalziel is described as 6ft 3in tall, of slim build with blue eyes, strawberry blonde hair with a fair complexion and moles on his neck.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: “When he was at his work on Friday, Christopher said he was going to go out that night, but he has not been seen since – we know he usually goes out to pubs in the Leith Walk area.

“We’re concerned that he’s not been in touch with his friends or family over the weekend so we’re keen to hear from anyone who may have seen him, or know where he is.”
