MP slams cash machine plan

EDINBURGH East Labour MP Sheila Gilmore has condemned the Royal Bank of Scotland’s decision to stop basic bank account holders using cash machines owned by its rivals.

She said the move undermined the bank’s efforts to restore public confidence in the wake of the banking crisis.

RBS basic bank account customers will only be able to withdraw money from RBS, NatWest, Tesco, Morrisons or Post Office cash machines.

Ms Gilmore led a parliamentary debate on the importance of providing basic bank accounts earlier this year.
