MSP backs wages campaign

LOTHIAN MSP Alison Johnstone has backed a Scottish Youth Parliament campaign to increase the minimum wage to £7.20 for all age groups in a bid to tackle poverty across Scotland.

Speaking at the Scottish Green Party conference in Glasgow, Ms Johnstone pledged her support to the One Fair Wage campaign.

She said: “As a party committed to equality we object to a young person being paid less than an older colleague simply because of their youth.

“Every worker deserves the same rights and age discrimination cannot be tolerated. The Scottish Greens are delighted to support the Scottish Youth Parliament’s One Living Wage campaign. The work that they have done in representing Scotland’s young people has made such a difference in recent years and the Scottish Green Party will continue to support them.”
