MSP blows top over wind farm schemes

LOTHIANS Labour MSP Neil Findlay has called on the Scottish Government to produce a national plan for wind farm developments after a flood of proposals for West Lothian.

He said if all the applications were approved, there would be turbines along the entire southern boundary of West Lothian from Kirknewton to Shotts.

Mr Findlay said: “It now resembles the race to the Klondike.

“I am pro-renewable energy but I believe we need a national plan that ensures the burden of energy generation is shared around the country.

“Communities like Harburn, West Calder, Kirknewton, Breich, Fauldhouse and Blackridge are being swamped with applications for turbines, without any substantive benefit derived by, or involvement of, the communities.

“As a result, people previously in favour of renewable energy are beginning to object. It becomes unfair when a small area is inundated with application after application.”
