Musselburgh smart move

TRAFFIC flow in Musselburgh is expected to be aided by the installation of a smart signal control system designed to reduce congestion.

The urban traffic control (UTC) system will co-ordinate the operation of all traffic signals in Musselburgh, aiming to give good progress for traffic.

While coordinating all the signals, the system responds intelligently and continuously as traffic flow changes and fluctuates throughout the day.

An East Lothian Council spokeswoman said: “It removes the dependence on less sophisticated systems.

“The UTC system will be validated this week, which may result in increased queue lengths until the system learns the optimum setting.”
