NHS Lothian on target

NHS Lothian is on course to hit its £50 million saving target, despite a series of new financial challenges.

An unexpected rise in the cost of prescribing, which could set the organisation back £6m, is among the headaches facing health board accountants.

However, the organisation said the number of staff leaving was helping it to make savings, which would total more than £80m over two years by the time the financial year ends next March.

Reducing the number of properties it owns is another approach being considered.
