Nightclubs slap ban on a Hibs star . . and no, it’s not Riordan

HIBS star Victor Palsson has been banned from every nightclub in Edinburgh for six months after being accused of relieving himself against a wall inside a George Street venue.

The 20-year-old Icelandic midfielder was said to have been caught urinating against a wall panel at the back of the Why Not? club at around 1.30am on Monday morning.

Palsson had been in the club with a group of fellow Hibs players just hours after their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Hearts on Sunday.

The player was escorted from the nightspot by door staff following the incident, and later handed the ban under the Unight scheme, which links all 45 venues with late licences in the Capital.

Door staff, who had recognised Palsson, took down his date of birth and other personal details.

The details, along with Palsson’s photograph, were entered into the Unight database, which can be accessed by every member club.

A Hibs spokesman said the club was unable to comment as Palsson was currently away on international duty and could not be contacted.

Palsson, who signed an 18-month contract with the Easter Road side in January after leaving Liverpool, has become the second Hibs player to be hit with a Unight city-wide ban.

Former Hibs striker Derek Riordan, who joined Chinese club Shaanxi Chanba during the summer, was banned from every club for ten years after a string of incidents.

A nightclub source said: “The ban against Palsson came into effect after he was caught urinating against a back panel in Why Not?”

Under Unight’s data-sharing system, images of drug-takers, violent customers and other troublemakers taken from CCTV cameras are sent to other clubs, and offenders are barred from all premises for a minimum of three months.

Spotted as a youngster playing for Icelandic side Fylkir, Palsson was snapped up by Danish club AGF Aarhus, and signed a three-year deal at the age of 16. But before he even made a first team appearance Liverpool offered him a trial and then spent £300,000 to take him to Merseyside.

With his Liverpool deal due to expire at the end of this season, he moved to the Capital and signed for Hibs.

Riordan’s ban from Capital nightclubs was doubled to ten years in December 2009.

A one-year ban was enforced in August 2008 after he verbally abused staff at the Berlin club, but within weeks it had been extended to two years after he was caught entering Espionage.

He was then banned for five years when teammates tried sneaking him into Lulu and got the ten-year ban after getting in to Jongleurs comedy club.
