Nine men arrested over Fernieside Avenue shooting
NINE men have been arrested and charged by police over an incident which saw a residential property in the Capital targeted by a ‘drive-by’ shooting.
Police Scotland said the nine men charged were aged 18 years old, 19 years old, 23 years old, 24 years old, 29 years old, 31 years old, 36 years old, and two men who are 30 years old.
They have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for a number of offences including culpable and reckless discharge of a firearm, directing and being involved in serious and organised crime, attempting to defeat the ends of justice, dangerous driving and driving without a valid licence.
Detective Chief Inspector Kenny Gray said: “We have now reported nine people to the Procurator Fiscal for the firearms incident in Fernieside Avenue in September. However our investigations are still continuing and I would reiterate our appeal for anyone who saw a motorbike with two people riding on it, in the Murrays around 9.30pm on Saturday, September 20.
“I’d like to thank those in the community for their patience and assistance and I want to assure them we are determined to stamp out organised crime in the city.”
Chief Inspector Richard Horan said: “Organised crime will not be tolerated by Police Scotland or those within the community, and we will vigorously pursue all those who seek to threaten public safety. I’d like to thank the community of south Edinburgh and anyone with any concerns, or who would like to report any information to us, should not hesitate in coming forward.”
