North Berwick gets behind home-town heroine Catriona Matthew

Home-town heroine Catriona Matthew will be a prime cut above as Solheim Cup captain, according to her local butcher in North Berwick.

“We are all firmly behind our girl,” said Ryan Anderson of Anderson’s Butchers, as he joined the entire community in offering its support to Matthew at the launch of ‘Year to Go’ celebrations in the East Lothian town.

“She has made the town so proud in all that she has achieved and we know she’ll do us proud as captain of Europe. The whole town is behind her.”

Anderson was speaking as Matthew, who has lived in North Berwick all her life, took the Solheim Cup on a walking tour in the town after hosting a Q&A session at North Berwick Golf Club.

Locals in attendance received a special North Berwick supporter t-shirt that will enable them to take advantage of a special ticket offer in the lead up to next September’s match at Gleneagles.

“It was amazing to start the countdown to next year in North Berwick,” said Matthew. “I was overwhelmed by the amount of people that turned up to celebrate this special moment. Looking around the room I recognised many of the faces and hope I’ll see many of those same faces next September at Gleneagles.

“With the support of North Berwick and the rest of Europe behind us, I’m confident we have a great chance of bringing the Solheim Cup trophy back to Scotland.”
