Oktoberfest organisers '˜saddened' after death

THE organisers of an Oktoberfest-themed event have expressed their sadness after a young man was found dead on an East Lothian beach.

Police Scotland launched an investigation after the body was discovered by a member of the public at around 7.45am on Sunday near to Car Park 1 at Longniddry Bents.

It is understood that the young man had attended the Hot Dub Stein Machine club night held at Gosford House.

Although police have not yet confirmed the man’s identity he is described as white, in his early to mid twenties with short brown hair.

A spokeswoman for the event said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of a young man. We are currently assisting the police to help in any way we can.”

SNP Councillor for the area Neil Gilbert told the Evening News: “Heartbreaking news from Longniddry Bents today. My deepest sympathies to all touched by this tragic incident.”

Police are asking anyone who can assist them to come forward and contact them via 101 quoting incident number 1156 of the 14th October.
