Old principles inspire work

TOURISM experts have used principles developed by a 19th century co-operative in New Lanark to establish the first “ecotourism” co-operative in rural India.

Professor Andy Frew, from Queen Margaret University, has led a collaboration with Scottish destination specialists Dunira Strategy and experts in co-operative tourism development.

Their work is based on the co-operative principles devised in the 19th century by social reformer Robert Own.
