Online petition aims to save Granton outdoor pool plan

THE group behind an ambitious plan to create an annual garden festival, outdoor swimming pool and community arts facility at Granton has launched a petition urging the city council not to sell land it wanted to use for the scheme.

The council has confirmed that it is set to sell the historic walled garden next to the 17th-century Caroline Park House to a care home provider for around £1 million.

But the move would end any hope of the Granton Community Partnership and Art in Architecture being able to develop their Granton Sur Mer scheme.

Now the group has set up an online petition, which has been signed by more than 80 people, urging the council not to sell the land for a care home development.

The group said that losing a “valuable space” would be “a sad loss to the community” and requested that the land is instead gifted to the Granton Sur Mer project.
