And now it’s over to the Beckhams for some light relief - Fiona Duff

The main events in the world right now are looking a tad frightening - what with that deranged turnip in the White House trying to divi up the rest of the world with his good mate Putin.

It’s sometimes hard to crack a smile, so thank goodness for Brooklyn Beckham for taking our minds off all that.

I mean – you have to hand it to the chap. Someone, somewhere has put his thoughts out on social media and what a belter of a post that was.

I do say someone, as I am not sure he would have the ability to write such a long, detailed screed, although perhaps I am underestimating the poor wee boy.

Oddly enough I also had the impression that his parents were rather fond of their children, that family meant a lot to them so quite a shock to hear otherwise.

Apart from giving them rather daft names, they seem to be very caring of the four offspring. I mean, if Victoria really did take the first dance at her son’s wedding with that very son, what on earth was she thinking?

Perhaps she just had a funny turn about her first born getting married, or maybe someone spiked her drink and she just went a bit bananas.

According to Brooklyn her performance on the dance floor was nothing short of embarrassing.

Of course, no-one really knows what goes on behind closed doors apart from those who are actually there. Most families behave differently when no-one else is around.

My three adult children seem to revert to playing silly games and sending each other (as well as my husband and me) up virtually nonstop.

I am sure all my friends have similar stories, although probably don’t mention them to others very often.

In 1981 one of the most talked about films was Mommie Dearest, based on a book by Christina Crawford’s book on her upbringing by the screen actress Joan.

One famous scene had mother beating her daughter with a wire coat hanger and if I remember correctly audiences started taking them along to cinemas to wave at the appropriate moment.

Who knows if this actually happened, but like with the Beckhams’ story it entranced audiences so much that the studio rebranded the film as a comedy.

And talking of odd families I just don’t have the space to dive into those of Trump and Putin.
