Arthur's Seat in the snow and a fancy hot chocolate was just the medicine we needed – Hayley Matthews

The kids have been so bored the past 12 months and there are only so many times you can go to the swing park, walk round the block, take them to the supermarket or, even more exciting, go for a drive!

So when we saw that snow was forecast earlier in the week it was like Christmas had come early, (or late).

We were so pleased that the kids were excited about something.

There's something really beautiful about the snow at night when it's all peaceful, white and completely still.

I think it feels even more surreal in lockdown. But after days of snow, I have to admit I’m kind of just wanting spring and the warmer days to be here now.

However, my partner said it's like whoever is up there doing the weather has just gone: “There you go kids! Enjoy your February holidays! Go and play in the snow.”

The timing really has been wonderful and I'm sure we've not been the only family with kids out playing in the snow.

And with Arthur’s Seat on our doorstep we're lucky to be able to get to a beauty spot on a whim!

I'm sure approx 45,000 people will be happy to hear we actually got a space in the car park – so there was no one bumping up on the grass – and the kids got a shot at sliding down the slope.

We had a ball making snow angels and throwing snowballs at each other, topping it off with a takeaway hazelnut hot chocolate with a waffle on top from Baba Rista. It was just the medicine we all needed.
