Douglas Ross has made a habit of quitting, cutting and running. He did it when he left the Lib Dems to join the Tories, then he resigned from the joint Tory administration he was a part of as a councillor.

As a parliamentarian he resigned as a junior minister, and has made bewildering U-turns on his support for Boris Johnson and more recently his commitments to stay at Holyrood.

The one constant factor has been the commitment of Douglas Ross to the interests of Douglas Ross.

Probably his low point was recently reached when he stabbed his hospitalised colleague David Duguid in the back.

The poor man was in recovery when the Tories banned him from running again so that Douglas Ross could stand in his seat. He has now burned so many bridges with his own MSPs that he knows he has no future at Holyrood.

All of this comes as new media reports have emerged about his parliamentary expenses and his third-job as a football linesman.

According to the Sunday Mail his own advisers previously raised concerns over 28 parliamentary travel claims “which may have been combined with his work as a football linesman”.

Douglas Ross says that the expenses claims were approved by the independent parliamentary body IPSA and he would have "no issue" with the expenses being examined for a second time.

Surely Douglas Ross needs to publish his claims well ahead of polling day so the electors of Aberdeenshire North and Moray East can make up their own minds about what kind of MP they want to have.
