Covid-19: Why we should do as Mammy Sturgeon tells us – Helen Martin

Whenever the lockdown’s restrictions start to be eased, we need to remember that lives are still at risk, writes Helen Martin

TODAY we will find out exactly what steps Boris Johnson plans for “unlockdown”. And Nicola Sturgeon’s reaction with her plans.

It is logical that the UK should include all countries, especially those at a different stage of peak, like Scotland which is behind on what’s described as the “infection curve”. But there isn’t actually any guarantee that England is at the point of lessening lockdown either.

What both countries have suffered, though not necessarily admitted, is that we simply don’t have enough police or “stewards” to ensure everyone keeps to rules. We both also have a range of the population who ignore the instructions, who don’t safe-distance from others, or non-essentially drive, explore or shop, plus our bands of vandals such as the Porty Pitz-damaging footballers.

Any steps on reducing lockdown are crucial because, as Nicola has stated, we could see another peak forming and might have to turn back.

This stage is not about “going back to normal”. It’s a tip-toe experiment that will only have a chance of working if we follow instructions

The UK is the worst country in Europe dealing with this so we cannot just copy what other successful countries have done.

Of course, everyone is praying and hoping that they can resume work or find a new job because we all need money and support which is in seriously short supply – another UK disaster.

Some desperate people are feeling forced to put earnings as a priority and forget their lives might be at risk. What we all have to do is consider ourselves as seven-year-olds.

Listen to Mammy Sturgeon. And do as we’re told.
