Covid getaway trip by helicopter and yacht sounded wonderful – Steve Cardownie

During these trying times, my WhatsApp has been inundated with posts from friends far and wide, most of which are trying to lighten the mood with their humorous content.

So I was amazed when I received a tremendous offer from one such friend dubbed “The King of Seafield” which read as follows: “URGENT. Anybody interested in a free ride in a helicopter? Flight for 4 people. I’m still looking for 2 more people to join us.

"We leave early Saturday (October 17) morning from Teeside Airport and will fly to The Lake District where we will have breakfast and then on to a yacht for lunch. Then we’ll do a flight to Berwick-Upon-Tweed for dinner then fly back home. If interested please contact me.

"Preferably someone with a helicopter and yacht, otherwise we can’t go!”

In the words of Scottish singer/ songwriter Jim Diamond “I should’ve known better”.

Another was a video of a Mrs Brown’s Boys cast member, Rory Cowan, recounting how he went into a store in Dublin and picked up a can of fly spray and, in his words, “I said to a young fella who was packing the shelves ‘Is this any good for wasps?’ ‘No,’ he said, ‘it kills them.’”

As the Reverend I M Jolly would say “you’ve got tae laugh.”

The jokes keep arriving thick and fast and are more welcome than ever but, funny though some of the stuff is, it can never replace the banter of a pub conversation with your friends.

Let’s hope that we can meet up again soon.
